Purpose of Class:

To provide the knowledge and comprehension that is expected of Watch Engineer or Shift Engineer to make machinery checks and take instructions from Shift Supervisor. To be able to report plant conditions to Shift Supervisor.

Provide student with the requirements to write / sit for the 3rd Class Power Engineer (Stationary Engineer) license exam at end of training class.

An objective of the class is to comply with the requirements of NASOE Accredited Power Engineer learning program for steam and power generation and their systems by complying with the learning components of NASOE.

The course covers the 'Science' (theory) and 'Math' expected of a 3rd class Power Engineer as well as 'Power Plant Operations and Safety.' The training class discusses 'Instrumentation and Controls' as well as basic 'Design and Applications' and 'Power Plant Auxiliaries.'  In addition, the 3rd Class Power Engineer training explains and discusses with illustrations the usages of 'Fuels and Combustion' as well as 'Water Treatment.'  The course cover 'Basic Electricity' as well as 'Steam Turbine Generators' and 'Condensers and Cooling Effluent Systems.'  In addition, this power plant training class defines and lists 'Effluent' streams of a typical power plant from flue gas to water discharge.

Finally, this power engineer training class instructs the student on recognizing the hazards of unsafe power plant operation and what to do in the event of a steam, boiler water, condensate discharge or turbine overspeed or electrical arcing.  The course is offers many good ‘rule of thumbs’ that are readily applied to many situations.
